Turkey: Investment Potential 2008

Property prices in Turkey are currently a fraction of those in other popular Mediterranean resorts and the country enjoys an annual influx of more than 20 million visitors. With the property market in Turkey firmly in the ascent, property investors are keen to capitalise on the expected boom while property is still cheap. The country's appeal to visitors, its low property prices and an outstanding potential for capital growth have combined to make it a natural investment choice for an increasing number of overseas property investors.

Steady Rise in Tourism

Property investors in Turkey will be pleased to hear that there is a steady annual increase in tourism figures. This means that the country is experiencing an unprecedented level of international exposure, which in turn, is increasing demand for Turkish property.  Turkey has been dubbed the "new Spain" by property experts who compare its booming tourism and relatively low property prices to that of Spain a decade ago. If Turkish property prices follow the Spanish model, they are set to appreciate rapidly over the coming years.

Turkey's Strong Economic Performance

According to Global Property Guide, Turkey has recently seen strong economic performance with 7.4% growth last year. Figures from the Turkish government show that foreigners invested in excess of $1.3 million in the Turkish property market last year, particularly buyers from the UK, Ireland, Germany and Canada. The Turkish property market received a further boost in 2007 when the Turkish government passed a bill making mortgages easier to obtain. This has already boosted the Turkish property market, encouraging further tourism growth and creating new buy-to-let opportunities. Experts believe that there is no stopping the country's upward momentum, making it the perfect potential investment environment for the overseas property investor.
