Cyprus: Investment Potential 2008
Property investors in Cyprus will find sustained economic growth, low inflation and a tourist location that is perennially popular with visitors both from the UK and across the globe. The country's strategic location at the crossroads of Europe, Asia and Africa attracts tourists all year round and figures are set to grow considerably thanks to the government's commitment to upmarket golf tourism.
Property Investment in Cyprus
According to PricewaterhouseCoopers, Cyprus is an attractive property investment location thanks to its position, year-round excellent climate and well-developed infrastructure. The Greek Cypriot economy is prosperous and has benefited considerably from becoming a full member of the EU in 2004 and adopting the Euro in January 2008. The Central Bank of Cyprus states that the economy has ‘robust macroeconomic stability' - a view supported by the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the European Commission (EC).
Cyprus Tourism
Property investors in Cyprus are safe in the knowledge that tourism has always been a major contributory factor in the Cyprus economy. The government is currently committed to a strategic tourism plan, which will upgrade current facilities and add new ones, such as luxury marinas, and there are plans for a total of 14 new golf courses across the island. With a vast array of scheduled, charter and low-cost airlines serving the country, the future looks bright, especially for the buy-to-let investor in Cyprus.
Cyprus Property Market
Potential property investors in Cyprus are offered stability and sustained price growth. A recent report in the Cyprus Mail stated that the country is popular with all types of buyers and investors thanks to its relatively low prices and good quality homes. Knight Frank is very upbeat about prospects for the Cyprus property market, ranking it the fifth best potential return in Europe and the best established market with five times the estimated growth of Portugal or Italy.
