Montenegro: Investment Potential 2008
With its independence from Serbia in May 2006, Montenegro became one of Europe's newest states. Since then Montenegro has moved swiftly to increase tourism and create a strong economy, making it an attractive emerging market for overseas property investors. Confidence in the country is increasing, especially since it joined the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund (IMF) in early 2007, with the government also pursuing membership of NATO and the European Union (EU) as a high priority.
Growing Tourism
Prospective investors in Montenegro will be reassured that the country's burgeoning tourist industry is making a significant impact around the world. The World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC) has named it as one of the top three fastest growing holiday destinations for three years running and tourism currently accounts for 17% of Montenegro's GDP. According to the National Tourism Organisation of Montenegro, the first 9 months of 2007 showed an overall rise in tourist arrivals of 19%, with figures reaching 1.1 million tourists in total. Such an influx creates the perfect environment for property investment in Montenegro as new accommodation is created to meet demand.

Increased confidence in both the economy and tourism is bringing in high foreign investment and the demand for high quality property both now and in the future is clear.
One of the most attractive areas for property investment in Montenegro is the coastal region often called the Budva Riviera.
